"Alice: But I don't want to go among mad people.
The Cat: Oh, you can't help that. We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.
Alice: How do you know I'm mad?
The Cat: You must be. Or you wouldn't have come here.
Alice: And how do you know that you're mad?
The Cat: To begin with, a dog's not mad. You grant that?
Alice: I suppose so,
The Cat: Well, then, you see, a dog growls when it's angry, and wags its tail when it's pleased. Now I growl when I'm pleased, and wag my tail when I'm angry. Therefore I'm mad."
I have always loved loved loved Alice in Wonderland. (along with everyone else, no?) I have a few different versions of the books and am always looking for more in dusty used bookstores. I did a little research and found a list that told me at least 250+ other artists have illustrated Lewis Caroll's Masterpiece. Which felt a little daunting ... with so many artists having already done it, dose the world need any more. . . . yeeeah, probably couldn't hurt... so, then I felt I really wanted to be the two fifty first - ish plus artist. There are worse crowds to run with, no?
A detail of Alice... to better see the texture, bleedily watercolor and unerased Tuscan Red pencil work. Alice's dress has a lot of swirly ink work that didn't show up so well :-)

Dr. Morvundor Von Ragnorokenstein always wanted his very own Frankenstein. So one dark and stormy night he made one. Sadly he was forced to use brass hockey pucks.
Here's the original sketch I drew it in the car while driving to the beach in sunny South Cali. I wonder why sunny South Cali inspires me to draw monsters? Maybe, monsters is my idea of fun??? hmmm...
Happy Halloween >;-D

I painted this one for the Terrible Yellow Eyes Blog (http://www.terribleyelloweyes.com/) and because Maurice Benard Sendak (he whos shoes I am unworthy to tie) is one of the greatest artists to ever live. I still have my old Where the Wild Things book... it has a lot of my 3 year old self pencil doodle monsters!!!

So... this week at work Virginia started this art swap coolness... we all draw little little pieces of art and swap 'em. As a person who usually hoards his art originals in boxes in the basement... it's been new to me to give originals away. I've found I really love it... especially when I get work back from some of my favorite artists... who happen to be the same artists I work with. Woo Hoo!

OZ - Some
“The enemy of mine enemy is my friend.”
Ozma is dead. The Emerald City lies in a fractured ruin. A shadow rises from darkest Munchkin land. The Lollipop Guild, in their greed and arrogance, has unleashed an unspeakable evil upon all OZ. Three former foes and their armies hope to stop the Doom of all things. But, it is a fools hope.
This summer a major motion picture event. (Cause they don’t make minor motion picture events.)
Dorthy, Tick Tock, Jack, The FREAKING Wicked Witch of the West, The Scarecrow and To To Jr. ... make a journey way super duper far beyond all imagining.
Here's some sketches from the old Sketchbook. This idea hit me while doodling in a Mc Donalds playland. I know what the evil thing is... I've got the story all worked out... it'd be fun to do a short comic about it.

For the honor of Gray Skull!!!
I'm still learning the masterful Avalanche methods of digi-painting. So it is with apologies to the honorable Sam Nielson that I steel his lighting scheme. A poor imitation I know. But hopefully I'll continue to improve. I just love that Teela painting soooo much. ;0) Once again super thanks to Seb and Ben!!!

Finally!!! ... the fully painted and operational Mer-Man of Masters of the Universe Fame. I did that initial sketch a while ago... then a gray scale... and now!!! woo hoo... done. I sorta, kinda borrowed the lighting scheme from the popular Todd Harris piece... hey, steal from the best right? :) A very big thank you to Sebastian and Ben for invaluable critiques and suggestions and pure awesomeness.

The Last Magi will die tonight! What great secrets will he take with him to the grave? Can we survive without his protection? Does he flap those eyebrows to fly?
My first life drawing from life in like, four years (embarrassed) ... It was a lot of fun... I think I'll do more :)

I thought the Pig People of Padulang would have comics… if they are indeed civilized soooo… here is what I thought a pig comic might look like.
I showed my little girl and she started singing: "Can he swing ... from a web ... no he can't ... he's a pig ... "
nuff said... ;o)
